Just My Type} Winter Garden Wedding

I’m so excited to get to share this wedding with you guys! Miranda & Mike had the most gorgeous day at The Winter Gardens in the Auckland Domain. Their special day was filled with personal touches and music! With a slight 50s feel, Miranda & Mikes aim was to have an intimate & cosy wedding, where they would get a chance to spend genuine time with all of their guests. Just wait until you see the photos of these two dancing amongst the greenhouse flowers – just spectacular!

A big thank you to the happy couple for sharing the details of their special day and their love story. Enjoy x

Mike was into doing local theatrical productions…I wasn’t. However, when my kids auditioned for parts in “Oliver” I got talked into being in the show as well. During rehearsals there was lots of waiting around and lots of card playing and lots of getting to know each other. When he swapped some of my bad cards for some of his good ones during a game I got the message.  Finally, Mike asked me out to dinner. Three and a half years later he asked me to marry him.

There was no particular theme for our wedding day but we wanted it to be relaxed and intimate. To keep things a little informal I arrived before the ceremony and enjoyed canapés with Michael and and our guests. We had a couple of speeches and then moved to the ceremony in the garden. For the reception we chose a smallish venue so that there was no left over, gaping space and we had less than 70 guests which allowed us to talk to everyone. We used fairy lights, up lit palms and candles to soften the room and a simple white and soft green colour scheme for decorations. The was a slightly 50s feel about the wedding because of things like the teacups and the style of my dress and shoes but the main idea was that it be friendly and cosy.

Mike and I both love to sing and it was important to us that music be a part of the day. Mike’s band played before the ceremony which set the tone for things. Also, after each speech, the speaker would sing a song accompanied by one of the band members on the guitar. Inevitably, the whole crowd would join in! Initially, when I put the idea to Mike and a few friends most of them thought it was a terrible idea but I felt sure it would work and it did. The evening was interspersed with wonderful, enthusiastic singing and laughter. Mike and I are big on dancing but understand that not everyone else is so we made sure that their was a handkerchief sized dance floor for us to have a wee dance on and my Dad and I used it too. It was wonderful.

Hi Diane! I couldn’t agree more – doesn’t the natural way the photos have been taken truly capture the day? I love the way they incorporated their musical talents too – such a special, personal touch! Thank you so much to Miranda & Mike for sharing their beautiful day here on the blog, and thanks Diane for visiting x

  2. Wow! Such a sweet wedding! The place is beautiful. I love the landscape and the flowers are amazing! The couple look so sweet and romantic. I can feel the warmth of this wedding. What makes this more romantic is the fact that they were personally involved during the reception. I love the idea that the groom was playing a musical instrument.
